Red Sox...Spring Tasting...Snow? You need Cork's!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Well we’re just 2 weeks away from our 6th Annual Grand spring Wine Tasting. It is on Thursday night April 14th from 5 to 7:30 PM. I’m right in the middle of picking out the wines and it looks to be an awesome lineup. We will have more details and a peek at some of the wines on the website at http://www.corksfinewine.com/. And we are just 1 day away from the opening of the Redsox World Series winning 2011 season. I just heard on sports radio that out of 75 prognosticators, all but 12 had the Sox winning it all! So even though it’s going to snow tomorrow it’s all good at 3 PM when the game starts. We will have it on here at Cork’s of course, and I will have my Redsox gear on doing a wine tasting featuring Sox wines.
Tonight’s beer tasting is with Greg from Arborway Imports. He will be pouring the 22 OZ. beers of Clown Shoes out of Ipswich, MA. That lineup consists of Clementine White Ale, Tramp Stamp Belgian IPA, Eagle Claw Fish Imperial Amber, Brown Angel Imperial Brown Ale, Hoppy Feet Black IPA, and Hoppy Feet 1.5 Imperial Black IPA. I haven’t had all these beers yet (I will after tonight as we pre-game for the Bruins!) but the ones I’ve had have been excellent. They’ve got some good press out there and you know we love to support the local guys. So be sure to stop in tonight between 4:30 and 7 and get 10 % off these delicious local brews.

I will be doing a wine tasting this Friday night from 4:30 to 7 PM featuring the wines that are in this week’s wine specials. I will start with 2 wines from Robert Oatley out of Australia. His Pinot Grigio is a bit different than the American and Italian versions with more body and spicy aromas. The Rose of Sangiovese is a great wine for the warm spring and summer months, and pairs great with all kinds of food. Staying in Australia we have Merlot and Cabernet from Marquis Phillips. I got a great deal on these wines and we have them sale priced this week at $10.99 which is $4 off ! And to kick off the Sox opener I’m opening up last year's Chardon-K and ZinfandEllsbury wines. These 2 wines are actually really good but with Beckett sucking last year and Jacoby on the DL most of the year they just didn’t sell as well as Sox wines in the past. We have them almost at cost and they can be yours for just $9.99.

6th Annual Spring Tasting coming soon...save the date!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Thankfully we avoided that mini snowstorm that they were talking about. We can’t have any more snow with the Sox opening up in a week. Speaking of the Redsox, this years Longball Cellars wines are ChardonClay and Cabernace for Buchholz and John Lester. They will be here in early May and we’ll taste them when they come in. We had a tasting lined up with Geary’s tonight but we have to cancel it. We’ve done Geary’s a bunch of times in the last few months, and I’m sure most of you know what this great Micro brewery from Maine is all about. We are still featuring the 12-packs this month for $13.99 with a free pint glass.

We don’t have a wine tasting scheduled for this Friday either. We will put something together for next Friday night and our 6th Annual Grand Spring Wine tasting will be in just 3 weeks. I am putting the lineup of wines and liquors together right now and it could be our best wine tasting ever! We will have close to 85 wines and a few liquor concoctions as well. We will post the lineup and more details on the website (corksfinewine.com) as the event draws closer. We have some great weekly sale items going on this week….are you folks checking out these greatly weekly promotions we have been running? There is a whiteboard in the front of the store and signage on these discounted items throughout the store. Part of this week’s sale is a wholesale discount on all French wines of 20 %. For some reason French wines just don’t sell the way they used to…be it the Aussie invasion…or France’s boycott of the Gulf war (do you remember Freedom Fries?)...or their stubbornness to list the varietals on the label...either way French wines have been down for quite some time. So we will be swapping the French wines from the front of the lay downs with the Spain/Portugal/Europe laydown wines. So hopefully after we sell a bunch of French wines this week before we will make this swap.

Spend your St Patty's day at where else? Cork's Fine Wine!

Welcome to Cork’s St. Patrick’s Day newsletter. I’m trying to get the newsletter out a day early to let you all know what’s going on for St. Patty’s Day. That is always a huge day for us here at Cork’s as Megan’s family is from County Cork Ireland. We have our usually huge Guinness display in the front of the store…every Irish Whiskey you can imagine… and our weekly specials will definitely have an Irish theme to them. We have 1 of our favorite beer customers Donnie O’ McNeil here to pour Irish beers Thursday night. And we have Tommy O’ Bolini here Friday for a wine tasting with an amazing Irish Whiskey at the end of it. Of course we have our festive holiday display in the vestibule and Irish displays in the front that Kathy does oh so well. I did bring some fabulous Caribbean weather back with me from the cruise, but you’ll have to wait for tomorrow and Friday when it’s supposed to be in the mid-60’s.

Our annual St Patrick’s Day beer tasting will feature Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick’s. Donnie will be making black and tans and will mix up some other crazy concoctions as well. I think we’ll even crack open a bottle of Jamison and do some mini Irish car bombs! We do have a limited amount of Guinness beads, pins, and other schwag to give away so be sure to come early. We have Jack from Geary’s here for next weeks beer tasting, and Clown Shoes the following week. So be sure to check out the website (corksfinewine.com) for all the upcoming beer events.

Tommy “he ain’t heavy he’s my brother” Bolini will be making a return appearance for Friday nights wine tasting. He will start with Canella Blood Orange Mimosa. This is an Italian Prosecco mixed with blood oranges and is a delicious way to start the tasting. Next up is a white blend from Hedges out of Washington State called CMS. It is a blend of Chardonnay, Marsanne, and sauvignon Blanc and is a great alternative to the everyday Chards out there. Off to New Zealand for Oyster Bay Pinot Noir. Marlborough Pinots tend to have a unique taste to them that I think is just right at a reasonable price. Menage a Trois Red is always a great value and we will try that 3sum of Zin, Cab, and Merlot next. We will finish the wine portion with Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel. Keeping the Irish theme going Tom will pour you a taste of the best Irish Whiskey I’ve ever had. It is called Slane Castle and is made in a famous castle in Ireland that hashosted some of the biggest bands in the world. The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Queen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis and REM are just some of the world renowned acts that have played at the venue. He even had the Lord of the castle with him a couple of weeks ago, and can you believe he didn’t even bring him to Cork’s?!?

Cruise on down to Cork's for this week's specials

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. This will be a 2 week newsletter as this time next week I’ll be on St. Maarten Island in the Caribbean on my fabulous cruise…thanks Sis and Oprah!! So we’ll talk about tastings for the next couple of weeks and the sale will be good for 2 weeks as well. So we’ll cover a lot of topics in a brief fashion. So let’s get the sports references out of the way off the top. The Sox are looking great in Grapefruit Leaguer action down in Ft. Myers…The B’s are back home after a crazy 6-0 roadtrip...I wasn’t a fan of the trade Danny made for the C’s at 1st but upon further review it could have been a “Red-like” steal…It looks like both the winter teams may be playing well into the spring this year.

Marc will be doing this week’s beer tasting himself from 4:30 to 7 PM. He has an eclectic lineup from all over the place. Here is what he will be sampling you on. Magic Hat Vinyl (their Spring seasonal)…Ayinger Hefeweizen…Williams Brother’s Joker IPA…Pauwell Kwak Belgian Ale (we special ordered this for some Kwak and he never showed, and left a bogus # )…and Dogfish Head Red & White…which is brewed with coriander, orange peel, and Pinot Noir juice…mmmm…sounds yummie. As of right now we don’t have a beer tasting scheduled for next week but we’re looking for volunteers, and for the following week for a St. Patties Day tasting…are you Irish Donnie?!?

John (don’t call me Johny Pesky) from Trio Wines will grace us with his presence for Friday nights wine tasting from 4:30 to 7 PM. Here is what John will be pouring. Maggio Sauvignon Blanc…Bianchi Chardonnay…CU-4-TRO Red Blend (new wine-great value!)…OZV Zinfandel…Coco Rosso, a chocolate infused wine…and he will end with Glen Moray Single Malt Scotch that just happens to be a weekly special sale item. We won’t have a tasting next week as I will be stuffing my pie hole after a day on St. John’s Island about the usual wine tasting time (can you tell I’m excited about the cruise yet?)

Don’t forget our 6th Annual Grand Spring Wine tasting is scheduled for Thursday night April 14th from 5 to 7:30. And go check out our new friend Matt’s Women in the Arts show Saturday night in N. Attleboro...check out the details of their show here on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=113892592018626

I’ll see you all in a couple weeks…much darker and much fatter! Hmmm…I wonder if Charlie Sheen and the Goddesses will be down there…
