Cork's Halloweem Spooktacular Tastings!

Welcome to Cork’s Halloween newsletter. We have some real spooktacular wines for all your Halloween parties this weekend. And the good news is they are all part of our “Whiteboard Specials” this week. You can find Skeleton Gruner Veltliner and Blauer Zweigelt in the “7 Deadly Zins” coffin as you walk in the store. Not only are the nice wines in a 1 liter bottle…they are on sale at 2 for $20 this week. The bottles also make great candle holders to decorate for those Halloween parties. We also have 7 Deadly Zins on sale for just $12.99, and AVV Temptation Zin for $11.99.

We have a special Belgian beer tasting lined up for this Saturday from 1 to 3 PM. It is with Jim who works for J.B. Master, and has done annual tastings for us around the holiday season. He sets up this huge 8 foot table and lays out all his beers, water, and snacks to pair with all his Belgian brews. I’ll give you the lineup that he will be pouring and I’ll let him explain what the heck they are. Here is what Jim will be sampling on Saturday - Saison Dupont…Peche Mel…Ruiter…and Moinette Brune. I’m glad I don’t have to elaborate on these beers because the only 1 I’ve had (or heard of for that matter) is the Saison Dupont. We will take 10 % off any of these Belgian beers during the tasting, and from past reviews, Jim always puts on a great show. So be sure to pop in for this event.

We have Ellen from United Connoisseur Wines here for this Friday night’s wine tasting from 4 to 7 PM. She has an interesting lineup of wines from all over the world for you to try. She will start with Mumm Napa Rose Sparkling Wine. Mumm sparklers are always delicious and ½ the price of their French counterparts. Next up is Nine Walks Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a nice Marlborough SB for just 8 bucks. Off to Australia for Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet (which along with the Chardonnay now comes in a 1.5 L mag size). From there we go to Italy for Ruffino Il Ducale Toscana. We jump over to France for Patch Block Cabernet. This comes in an economical 3 Liter bag-in-a-box package, along with Chardonnay and Merlot. She will neatly wrap up the tasting with Cherry on Top Sweet White Wine. This blended white is a perfect wine to pair with desserts for the holidays or as dessert all on its own.

Anybody who comes to either tasting in Costume will receive a free gift. So dress up and come try some great Belgian Beers and wines from around the world. Big test for the Pats this week as we go into Pittsburgh to face the defending AFC champs. A win here will be a nice barometer on what we can expect from Brady and the boys this year. And the Bruins have their 1st showdown with the hated Canadiens tonight, which is always must see TV for me. So be sure to stop in and load up for the games and all your Halloween festivities. Happy Halloween, and we’ll see you all soon.

Corked the Comic Wines and Caricatures Friday at Cork's

Welcome to Cork’s Fine Wine weekly newsletter. We have a very special wine tasting lined up for this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. We have the winemaker, Francis Sanders, from Corked the Comic Wines to taste you on his delicious wines. In addition to Francis, we have the label designer and artist David Griffin here as well. While you’re sampling and talking to Francis (and trust me…he can talk!) about his excellent wines, David will do a caricature of you! You can check out the Corked the Comic strip here (www.corkedthecomic.com )

The wines are really quite good as I just tried them and brought them in a few weeks ago. The 1st wine they will be tasting you on is Mira Luna Tough Day Chardonnay. This unoaked Chardonnay is from the Carneros region of Sonoma, and drinks like a $20 plus bottle for just $14.99. Next up is the Mira Luna Crusher & Stemmer Red. This red blend is predominantly Merlot, but has all 4 of the other Bordeaux varietals in it as well, and is just $10.99. Last but not least is Tough Dame Cabernet. This big rich Cab also has a lil Petite Sirah and Syrah mixed in as well. You will think you're drinking a $15 to $20 Cab but you're not... it's just $12.99. We will do a special discount for this tasting only and give you 15 % off any of the wines you try that night! So come try some great wines...meet an actual winemaker...and go home with hopefully a nice picture of yourself!

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we do have a beer tasting tonight with our good friend Miguel from L. Knife. He will be sampling our “Beer of the Month” Peak Organic Variety 12 Pk. This consists of Pale Ale…IPA…Nut Brown Ale…and yes…our 1st winter beer of the season…Winter Session Ale. We had a good response to the Peak organic line the last time we sampled them, and I’m looking forward to trying them. The mix 12 will be sale priced at $13.99 for the week, and of course with all our “BOTM” Variety packs you get a free pint glass with your purchase.

We do have a very limited supply of Oktoberfest/Pumpkin/Fall beers left, so be sure to come scoop them up before they’re all gone. We do have a Hiram Walker Pumpkin Spice Liqueur for all those crazy fall drink recipes as well. Don’t forget we will match any ad from our local (Mansfield) competitors. Just bring the ad in and we’ll be happy to honor that price. Enjoy the “Bye Week” and we’ll see you at Friday nights special “Corked the Comic” wine tasting!

Dont fear the dark...beer, that is...and check out our new weekly poll.

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Very nice win by the Pats last week against the Jets, let’s hope they can keep it rolling against the Cowboys on Sunday. Looks like the B’s are suffering from the Stanley Cup hangover, and the Sox keep cleaning house with Theo out the door now. Now if he could only take Lackey and Crawford with him.

Be sure to check out the blog (http://www.corksfinewinenewsletter.blogspot.com/) and vote for your favorite tasting we do here at Cork’s. We will be putting different polls and surveys up to try and get your feedback on stuff going on here at Cork’s.

Marc will be doing a “Don’t Fear Dark Beer” Tasting tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM. He will have Sam Adams Black Lager…Harviestown Old Engine Oil…Firestone Walker’s Reserve Porter…Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon…Wachusett Black Shack Porter…and Samuel Smith Taddy Porter. Sounds like some yummy beer for a dark and dreary fall night. We will take 10% off any of the beers you sample, so come to the “Dark Side” tonight at Cork’s.

I will be doing what probably will be my last Friday night wine tasting (4 to 7 PM) of the year at Cork’s….No, I’m not going anywhere…It’s just that I have almost all the other Friday nights booked up till years end. I will start with 2 wineries I visited and I think put out some incredible wines. Mionetto Sergio Prosecco (92 points Wine Enthusiast) will start the evening off with a pop. From there we go to Oregon for Anne Amie Estate Dry Riesling. If you’re looking for a sickeningly sweet Riesling, well this isn’t the one for you. The next 2 wines are featured in our bi-weekly whiteboard specials, Bridlewood Chardonnay and Parker Station Pinot Noir. Both of these wines are regularly $14.99 and are on sale for just $10.99. Campos Reales Tempranillo is another great value wine at $6.99 (2 for $12) and is the perfect base wine for making Sangria. We will end the “Value” portion of the tasting with another fantastic wine, Cameron Hughes Lot 17 Meritage. I bought the last of this lot at one of the supplier tastings, and this wine should retail at $20 to $25 but is only $12.99!

Be sure to check out the rest of the “Whiteboard Specials we have going on (http://www.corksfinewine.com/weeklyspecials.htm). And don’t forget we have a special tasting lined up for next Friday night. We will have winemaker Francis Sanders and artist David Griffin here to sample you on wines based on characters from Corked! the comic. While Francis tells you about his delicious wines, David will do a caricature of you! This should be a lot of fun and the wines are really good too! Have a great weekend everybody and we’ll see you soon.

Thanks for attending Corktoberfest and a sad good bye to Terry Francona!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Who would have thought that the 2011 Redsox would be home watching the playoffs, and the ’11 Bruins would be raising a Stanley Cup Championship banner tonight at the Garden! Let’s hope the B’s can avoid the Stanley Cup hangover and go back to back, which hasn’t been done for 13 years in the NHL.

A big thank you to all who attended our 1st ever Corktoberfest Beer tasting on Saturday. I think Marc did a great job of picking out some new and interesting beers. It was crowded, but never so overwhelming that you couldn’t get around and listen to the reps. Please feel free to give us any feedback, both positive and negative, so we can make these events even more enjoyable. My question for you is do we do Corktoberfest again next year, or do we steal back the Saturday before the Pats open up from the evil empire and do a Kick-Off tasting in early September?

We won’t have a beer tasting this week as we recover from last week’s big event. I do have John from Trio here Friday night from 4 to 7 for a wine tasting this week. He will have a nice assortment of wines including 2 new French wines we just got in. Nicolas Sauvignon Blanc and a really nice inexpensive Bordeaux called Chateau Cap de Haut. He will also have the hottest white varietal out there Pine & Post Moscato. Tavernello Vino Rosso will be next and is a good wine at the ridiculous bargain price of 2 for $12. OZV (Old Vine Zin) will be next followed by the delicious Bianchi Cabernet that John once quoted me as saying “Drinks like a $30 Cab”. So stop in and see Johny Pesky or he may just come knock on your door and ask you if you’d like to try some wine?? We’re doing a wine tasting at Cork’s!

Wine Sale Items for 10-6-11 to 10-19-11

  • Parker Station Pinot Noir … $10.99

  • Bridlewood Chardonnay … $10.99

  • Skeleton Gruner Veltliner or Blauer Zweigelt 1 Liter … 2 for $20

Beer Sale Items for 10-6-11 to 10-19-11

  • Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon 22 OZ … $9.95

  • Heineken 12 PK Bottles … $12.99

  • All Berkshire Brewing Growlers 64 OZ … $6.99

Liquor Sale Items for 10-6-11 to 10-19-1

  • Cabin Fever Maple Whiskey … $17.99

  • Pinnacle Gummy Vodka 750 ML … $11.99

  • New Amsterdam Vodka 50 ML nips … 99 cents

Be sure to check out our festive fall display in the vestibule if you haven’t already. Great job as always on that Kathy! We even got a cool coffin for our 7 Deady Zins, and the new Skeleton Austrian wines that we got in for Halloween.

And I say this every year but it “beers” repeating. If you see your favorite Pumpkin, Oktoberfest, or Fall Beer hanging around buy it now…stock up on it. They will not last until Halloween or Thanksgiving. Not to mention that some breweries are already shipping out Winter Beers next week. Yikes…winter already???....NOOOOO!!

Have a great weekend folks…Go Pats and Bruins! Good luck, Terry Francona - you were an excellent manager and will be missed.
