Welcome to Cork's Earth Day Newsletter

To help celebrate Earthday I think I’ll recycle the old mystery discount this week but take the mystery out of it. Just mention you saw the newsletter…wear an outfit made entirely out of hemp...or just wish the cashier a happy Earthday and receive 10% off any organic wine or beer (including the brand new Southern Tier 422) we have in the store. And if you buy 6-wines (they don’t have to be organic) and ask the cashier, we’ll give you a 6 bottle, earth friendly, green cloth bag for free!! We also have a very limited supply of the really cool black, 4 bottle Earth 2.0 bags left over from Erin’s tasting on Saturday. If you buy at least 2 of the delicious Earth 2.0 wines you can score 1 of them as well.

Our buddy Jacob Pacific (sounds like a made up pornstar name to me) from Sam Adams will be here on Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 to taste the new Imperial Series beers from Sam. He will have the Imperial White, Imperial Stout, and the Double Bock all in 4 pks for you to sample. I think he said he would do the fairly new Blackberry Witbier also. He promises us he will hang our gigantic Sam Adams montage in the front vestibule area after the tasting too!! One other beer note, we have a limited supply of the Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout. Limit (2) 6-pks per customer, while they last.

We don’t have a wine tasting scheduled this Friday (where are all those people who said they wanted to do a “Customer Wine Tasting” ?!?). I will be off next week on my sorta annual trip to Ft. Myers Beach and off to see the Sox in Tampa Bay, so there won’t be a wine tasting next week either. But we have 7 of the next 8 weeks already booked, so be sure to check the website out (corksfinewine.com) for the lineup.

There won’t be a newsletter next week ( but have no fear, I’ll probably tweet...blog…dig…blurb...burp…or throw updates on the website) so I want to mention that Saranac will be here next Thursday, April 30th from 4:30 to 7:30 for a beer tasting. I’m not sure what the lineup is going to be yet, but we haven’t done them in a long time and they always have good stuff. Let’s hope the Sox keep up their winning ways…The B’s polish off the Canadiens...and the Celts can overtake the upstart Bulls, and keep their playoff run going. Looks like the warm weather will finally be making an appearance…enjoy it, and I’ll catch you all in a couple weeks.

The Beer Wars

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I hope everybody had a great Easter. Thanks to all of you who stopped by and stocked up for the holiday here at Cork’s…we appreciate your patronage. We have a ton of tastings lined up on both the beer and wine side. You must check out the lineup at corksfinewine.com to see all the events we have booked right into the summer months.

Our friend Bud from Atlantic Imports will be here Thursday to sample you on the outstanding microbrews from Dogfish Head. They are 1 of the leaders in the American microbrew revolution, and will be featured in the Beers Wars movie showing nationwide (and at Patriot Place) at 8 PM on Thursday. This movie documents the history of American microbrews, and will be shown in 450 theaters across the USA for 1 night only. It will be followed by a live simulcast discussion featuring Jim Koch from Sam Adams…Greg Koch from Stone Brewing…Todd Alstrom the founder of BeerAdvocate…and the owners of Dogfish Head. Before the movie from 4:30 to 7:30 Bud will be sampling this outstanding lineup from Dogfish Head. 60 minute IPA…90 minute IPA…Indian Brown Ale…Raison D’Etre…Palo Santo Marron…Midas Touch…and Aprihop. This will be 1 of the best tastings of the year, and with 10% off any Dogfish Head beers that night, 1 you should not miss. Josh and I will be heading over to Patriot Place for the big event and welcome you to join us. In fact Josh said he’d buy any of our regular customers a beer after the show!!

Erin from J. Polep will be here for this week's wine tasting which will be on Saturday this week from 2 to 5 PM. She will be featuring wines to help celebrate Earthday, which is next week on April 22nd. She will start with Peter Brum Riesling from Germany. Next will be 3 brand new organic wines from Earth 2.0. These delicious Spanish wines feature a Tempranillo, a Tempranillo/Cabernet blend, and a Reserve Tempranillo/Merlot. She will finish the tasting with a value Italian wine called Brumante Montepulciano D’Abruzzo that is just $7.99 or 2 for $14. With the purchase of any 4 of these wines, you will receive a cool 4 bottle earth friendly wine bag for free!!!

Well as I write this Tim Wakefield has a no-no going into the 8th and the Sox are up 8-0. Let’s hope this will be the kick they need to change the early season funk they have been in. While we are on the sports theme, with the Bruins starting their Stanley Cup run Saturday at the Garden at 8 PM, we will get the playoffs rolling with a Molson Beer Tasting.from 5 to 7 PM. We have a hockey goal on our front display and an authentic Bruins game jersey signed by the entire lineup of the 2009 team. Unfortunately we will only be giving you a Molson pint glass with the purchase of a 12-pk or any (2) six-pks of Molson. But hey you also get 10 % of on the beer and what better way to get ready for the B’s and Canadians…Eh?

Happy Easter from all of us at Cork's Fine Wine

Welcome to Cork’s Easter newsletter. I would like to thank all of you who attended our 5th Annual Grand Spring Wine tasting last week. Although the turnout was a little lighter than normal, I thought it was very successful. Quite a few of you commented on how it was more manageable, and easier to talk with the reps. Unbeknownst to us we ran into Yankee Spirits spring tasting which kept the numbers here down a bit…heck, we even had 2 extra pizzas!!! We are open to your comments and suggestions on how we can make the next tasting even better.

We will not have an official wine tasting this Friday night as it's Good Friday and we’ll be kind of busy. But our friend John from Trio Wines said he’d stop by and sample you on a few of his wines, if you happen to be in the neighborhood. Next Saturday (April 18th) from 2-5 PM we will have Erin from J. Polep here with some organic wines, and earth friendly wine bags to help celebrate Earth Day.

I’d like to wish all our Jewish friends a happy Passover season. We have a rack in the front of the store with a few kosher wines and beers for your convenience. We will also have Melissa from Schmaltz Brewing Co. here to sample you on their crazy Coney Island Beers this Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. She will have the Coney Island Lager, Albino Python, Sword Swallower, and Human Blockhead, all in 22 oz. bottles for you to sample. As with all our Thursday night beer tastings you will receive a 10% discount on any beers we sample that evening.

We will be open until 10 PM this Friday & Saturday and every Fri/Sat night right through the summer months. We will be closed Easter Sunday so we may enjoy the holiday with our families. I do have some bad news we need to pass along. Cork’s mascot has passed away…no not Ted the wine dog...but Floyd the fish. He had a short, yet uneventful 4 day life here at Cork’s. His smile and infectious personality will be sorely missed.

Our next big event will be our 3rd Annual Customer Appreciation Day, which will be sometime in late July or early August. Be sure to check the website (corksfinewine.com). MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and any other crazy social network that we’re on for details and updates on all events happening here at Cork’s.
I hope you all have a great Easter and we’ll see you soon.

5th Annual Grand Spring Wine Tasting April 2

Bad news folks…due to last minute unforeseen problems we’ve had to cancel this years spring wine tasting…we apologize for any inconvenience….April fools!!!!...Well it’s finally here!! Cork’s 5th Annual Grand Spring Wine Tasting is Thursday, April 2nd from 4:30 to 7 PM. The lineup is complete and we have 80 wines…2 liquors… and even 1 Greek beer for you to sample.

I know most of you have been to the big tastings before, but for you newbies out there here is a quick rundown on how it works. You are strongly encouraged to bring your favorite wine glass with you. We will provide smaller wine glasses, but there is nothing like swirling and sniffing with your own glass. You will get a sheet listing all the wines and tables when you enter the store. Your sheet will have a # on it, and that is your # for the night. When you find a wine you like simply tell the rep and they will put a sticker on the bottle with your # on it. We’ll have runners bring it to the front of the store and start a box for you. When you’re all done tasting for the night just tell the cashier your # and we’ll have the wines all ready for you. You will receive 10% off on 6 bottles and 15% off on 12 or more. 2 for wines will count towards the total amount, but will not discount further. This is a great opportunity to try some new wines and stock up for Easter. There will be plenty of snacks and our famous tasting pizza for all to munch on. But please, no gluttony…and by all means keep a clear path between Tommy Bolini and the pizza at all times!

The beer tasting for this Thursday has been bumped but we will back next week with the crazy brews from Shmalz Brewing Co. We have Thursday beer tastings booked right through the spring and summer months, so be sure to check the website (corksfinewine.com) and make it part of your regular “Thirsty Thursday” routine.

A big thank you to Cara & Cindy who did our 2nd “Customer Wine Tasting” last Friday night. They had a gazillion wedges of exotic cheeses…fresh fruit…and chocolates to pair up with their favorite wines. The turnout was great, and we even sold a couple bottles of Woodbridge Chardonnay! So who wants to hold the next one?!?

OK…a couple of last minute things and then I have to get ready for our house party we’re throwing. Starting this week we will start closing at 10 PM on Fridays & Saturdays. We will now be open from 12 to 6 on Sundays as well. That surely must mean warm weather and the start of the Redsox season…woohoo!! Going into the busy summer months we will be looking for a couple of part-time cashiers. We have flexible shifts available, and you can download an application from the website or stop in and fill 1 out. I hope to see you all at the tasting tomorrow.
