Happy 2012 - Goodbye 2011 Celebration here at Cork's!

Welcome to Cork’s New Year’s newsletter. It sure has been quite an eventful year. I was looking back at last year’s newsletter from this week, and I can’t help but notice I was spouting off about ALL 4 teams winning their respective championships. Well that didn’t quite work out so well but I bet none of you besides Wallace had the Bruins as the 1 local team to win it all!

It’s been a pretty good year for Cork’s as well. I know there is a lot more competition in town and we appreciate you staying with us here at Cork’s. We promise to continue with the most weekly tastings…biggest Grand Tastings…and the selection and customer service that you have come to expect from Cork’s Fine Wine & Liquors.

Marc is going to end the 2011 Beer tasting schedule with some of his new favorites from the past year. Here is the lineup that he will be sharing with you: Alesmith Horny Devil…Firestone Walker 15th Anniversary…Breckenridge 471 IPA…Troegs Javahead Stout…Smuttynose Gravitation…and Ommegang Adoration. This sounds like a pretty amazing lineup and a must-try tasting for sure. As with all our tastings here at Cork’s, take 10 % off anything you try that evening. I’d like to give a shoutout to Marc and the great job he did in the beer department last year. It sure has taken a lot of pressure off me, and I think the beer section has never looked better. Thanks Marc!

Let’s end 2011 with a lil “Good Riddance Day” celebration. (http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-723632?hpt=us_bn2) I saw these all over Times Square a few weeks ago when I was there with my sis. Seemed like a pretty cool way to shed those bad memories of the past year. Speaking of Times Square, we could see the New Year’s Ball from the window of our hotel room. I bet that room is going for a pretty penny New Year’s Eve! Let’s get the party started (Friday 4 to 7 PM ) with my go-to Sparkling Wine here at Cork’s, Cristalino Brut Cava. We will have it sale priced at $7.99 for the New Year. Another favorite of mine Mionetto Prosecco will be next, followed by 1 of our biggest hits of the Christmas season, Terra Sparkling Malbec. We can’t have a bubbly tasting without a true Champagne, so let’s pop open a Taittanger Brut Champagne. I will mix in 2 still wines from our whiteboard specials below to round out the tasting -AVV Gewurtz and Schild GMS.

Wine Sale Items for 12-29-11 to 1-12-12

· Cristalino Brut or Rose Cava … $7.99

· AVV Gewurtz … $7.99

· Schild Estate GMS … $12.99

Beer Sale Items for 12-29-11 to 1-12-12

· Shipyard Applehead 6-PK … $7.99

· Newcastle Brown Ale 12-PK … $13.99

· Cisco All Large Formats … 15% off !

Liquor Sale Items for 12-29-11 to 1-12-12

· Mount Gay Eclipse Black Rum … $21.99

· V-One Vodka … $22.99

· Ursula’s Nip Special… Red Stag 50 ML …99¢

So I won’t be making any crazy all 4 local team predictions again this year. But I’ve got to say, the B’s look like a pretty sure thing to repeat. Darn it, I was going to buy a new bedroom set from Jordan’s too! The C’s look too old and injured…and the Pat’s defense is a bit too scary still for me…and the Pirates are still a few years away with their excellent farm system and young talent.

Let’s toast to a Happy 2012….and Good Riddance 2011…Happy New Year everybody!

Christmas Cheer from all of us at Cork's Fine Wine!

Welcome to Cork’s Christmas newsletter. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only 3 days away! It seems like it was just Thanksgiving last week. I hope you all have your shopping just about wrapped up. Well, not all of it, of course…I’m sure you still need to come see me and pick out some nice holiday wines…Or have Marc show you some great Winter beers and seasonal brews…or maybe you just need some Bailey’s or Kahlua for that special someone. Well, be sure to stop in and let us fulfill all your last minute holiday needs.

We have a couple of special tastings lined up for Christmas week here at Cork’s. Our good friend Miguel will be here tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM to sample you on our “Beer of the Month” Sam Adams Winter Variety Pack. This festive 12-pk contains 2 bottles of Boston Lager…Winter Lager…Old Feziwig…Chocolate Bock…Holiday Porter…and Black & Brew Coffee Stout. Not only can you buy this Holiday 12-pk for $12.99 (tonight only) - you get a free Sam Adams pint glass as well. This is a great item to bring to Moms, the In-Laws, or Uncle Jim’s for Christmas dinner. With 6 different varieties, there should be 1 to please everyone.

Tommy (he ain’t heavy he’s my brother) Bolini will be here for a Holiday wine tasting on Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. He will start with a white bend from Rosemount Estate in Australia. Traminer Riesling for those that do not know is a blend of Riesling (that was the obvious 1) and Gewurztraminer (hence the Traminer). From there we go to 1 of the best California wine producers, Rodney Strong Vineyards from Sonoma County. Tom will taste you through the big 4 varietals…Chardonnay…Pinot Noir…Merlot…and Cabernet. These wines are all beautifully made and at least 1 of them will pair beautifully with that turkey, ham, or roast beast you’re having for Christmas dinner. He will end the tasting with the wine we always end our holiday gatherings with - Dell Acquese Moscato D’asti. This is the classic dessert wine that even my Mom doesn’t make that funny winey face when she drinks it. So come kick off the long Christmas weekend with the Tommy Bolini Show on Friday night!

We will be open from 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, Christmas Eve. The store will be closed on Sunday, Christmas Day. And thanks to a last minute reprieve by the Governor, we will be open from noon to 6 on Monday, Boxing Day! Just a reminder that we have the easiest in-and-out parking here at Cork’s. No need to fight for a space, or get stuck in mall traffic. We also match any advertised sale price in town. So there is no reason to shop anywhere else but Cork’s this Holiday Season.

From all of us at Cork’s Fine Wine & Liquors, Merry Christmas! …oh and Kathy says Happy Hanukkah too!

The Wrap Girls...and my cousin Vinnie!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. We have a special wine tasting for you this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. We have Aimee & Clara, better known as the “Wrap Girls” here at Cork’s. They have their own TV talk show (think Hoda & Kathy Lee) on Norton’s public access channel 15 http://www.nortontv.org/#!the-wrap . I think they are also on now in Mansfield as well but I’m not sure which channel. They will be sharing some of their favorite wines they picked out earlier this week. Here is what they will be pouring: Kris Pinot Grigio…Bridlewood Chardonnay…Mark West Pinot Noir…Middle Sister Red Blend…La Hoya Reserve Syrah…and ll Lambrusco Sparkling Wine. They were here a few months ago and it was a lot of fun. So don your favorite Christmas sweater and come join “The Wrap Girls” for a Holiday Wine Tasting at Cork’s.

After a long absence from Cork’s, we welcome back my cousin Vinnie for Thursdaynight’s (4:30 to 7) beer tasting. He’s a week early by my calendar for the official start of winter, but he will be pouring the “Winter Beers” from Quality Beverage. Here’s the lineup: Sierra Nevada Celebration…Goose Island Mild Winter…Kona Pipeline Porter…Ithaca Cold Front…Redhook Treblehook…and Ovila Quad. Sounds like a pretty sweet lineup to me. I know there are at least 3 or 4 that I’ve never tried before. Even though it’s 50 degrees, and doesn’t really feel like winter, put on your scarf and mittens and come welcome Vinnie back to Cork’s and try some great beers.

It should be a great Pats game this week against Denver and the amazing Tim Tebow. The B’s look to be back to their winning ways with back to back wins. Even the Celtics are piecing a roster together and hopefully done with that ridiculous Rondo trade talk. Hmmmm…wonder how my Pirates off-season is going. Usually not much hotstove action when your payroll is only 40 million. Good to see Tito land on his feet on ESPN. I’m sure he’ll do a great job in the booth.

Have a great weekend folks, and be sure to make Cork’s your 1-stop for all your Holiday parties!

Great gift sets and handmade gift baskets all priced right!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Thanks to all of you who came out for our Bill “Spaceman” Lee wine tasting last week. It was a huge success! Bill was as crazy as ever, spinning tales of his past and present. He happily signed anything put in front of him and we sold out of 8 ½ cases of Spaceman wine. I’m hoping to get some more, and Bill said he’d swing by and even sign those for you folks who couldn’t get any that night. Thanks to Bill’s lovely wife Diana and to Kurt from Horizon Beverage for helping us out as well.

As for this week’s tasting we have our good friend Zach from Newport Storm here tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM. He will be pouring their flagship Hurricane Amber Ale…Rhode Island Blueberry…Winter Ale…and the new “Storm of the Season” Sabrina which is a Belgian Style Pale Ale. And if Zach is the outstanding salesman I think he is he will have the new Newport Storm ’11 in the 750 ML cork finish bottle for us to try as well. I just found out from Marc that it is in the house. It sounds pretty cool. If you have a minute, check out their website http://newportstorm.com/beers.php?menid=2 . Being from RI, I’ve always been a big fan of these guys going back to their very 1st luau they have each summer. So please help support the little guys and try some great local beers.

Friday night’s wine tasting (4 to 7 PM) is with Jeff from Hangtime Wholesale. He has a nice lineup of value wines that will be perfect for the Holidays, and leave you enough extra cash for those Christmas presents. He will start with a Sparkling Wine called Made by G. It is a made from Gamay (think Beaujolais) and I remember loving it when I bought it over a year ago. Apparently I didn’t do a good job expressing that to you folks as I’m sitting on most of it still. Next up is a delicious Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc called Sunday Mountain. Shannon Ridge Chardonnay and Petite Sirah will be next, followed by a nice blend from JK Estates called Crossfire, and he will end with Sant’ Angelo Negroamaro. As with all our Friday night wine tastings, we will take 10 % off any wines you sample that night.

Be sure to check out our new display in the front vestibule that Kathy designed. Not a bad Christmas display for a Jewish girl. Check out our liquor gift sets and small nip and beer baskets that Marianne and Val made up. These make great grab gifts and are very reasonably priced. We can also make wine baskets, or any other basket you would like with a couple day’s notice.

Good to see Big Papi coming back (even though I’m a Pirate fan next year). And what’s with all this Rondo trade talk? I don’t get that at all. At least the Pats and Bruins are still playing well. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you all soon.

Robert
