Memorial Day, Oprah and Bruins... celebrate them all with Cork's!

Welcome to Cork’s Memorial Day newsletter. Well it took forever but I think the nice summer weather is finally here just in time. They are calling for upper 70’s to low 80’s for the holiday weekend. Hopefully the showers will be few and far between so we can get our picnics, barbecues, and beach days in. Just to let you know - all liquor stores have to close on Monday Memorial Day. Kind of a weird law because we can open July 4th and Labor Day but the unofficial kick-off to the Summer, we must be closed. We will be open 10 AM to 10 PM on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 6 so stop in early and stock up for the long holiday weekend.

This week’s beer tasting (Thursday from 4:30 to 7) is with Wachusett Brewing Co. from out in Westminster, MA. We will be sampling the beers that come in the “Box of Brews” mixed 12 pack. That consists of Wachusett Blueberry, Country Ale, IPA, and Larry Imperial IPA. This is the “Beer of the Month” and comes with a free pint glass! It is also on sale this week for only $12.99. We’re also going to have them open up the Belgian Style White in the 22 OZ. format as well. So please stop by and help support the local guys and try some great beers.

Our friend John from Trio Wines will be here for Friday nights wine tasting from 4:30 to 7 PM. He has 6 great summer wines, and even a homemade “White Sangria”. He will start with a nice value priced (2 for $14) Pinot Grigio called Santa Marta. Next up are 2 organic and vegan wines from Girosole, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Washington Hills Cabernet and Chateau La Rose Tour Blanche Bordeaux are both delicious barbecue wines. He will end with House Jam Chillable Red, and make a White Sangria out of the House Jam White. These are all value wines and budget friendly to get those summer parties started. Don’t forget to check out the website (corksfinewine.com) for this week’s sale items that run till next Wednesday.

Let’s hope the Bruins can wrap things up on the road tonight and rest up for their 1st Stanley Cup in 21 years. Even the Sox already won today with an afternoon spanking of the Indians as they cruise towards 1st place after a dreadful start to the season. So as my sister always tells me, not everybody is into sports, so let’s give a shout out to Oprah for an amazing 25 years of inspiring TV. At least that’s what she tells me…all I know is she paid for my fabulous cruise to the Caribbean…I love Oprah!

Just a reminder: we will match any advertised sale price from any store in Mansfield. Just bring in the ad and we’ll be happy to match the price. Last but certainly not least, a big Thank You to all the all men and women who died serving this great country. So as you’re grilling your burgers and dogs this Memorial Day weekend raise a glass and toast those who made that freedom possible. Have a great holiday weekend everybody.

Cork's Soggy Newsletter

Welcome to Cork’s soggy newsletter. Will this rain ever stop? It’s a good think the world is ending Saturday because I’m not sure how much more of this I can stand. At least we have the Bruins to root on as they squared the best of 7 series at 1 each last night. And the Sox are a game over .500 with their recent sweep of the evil empire. And we have the opening of Great Woods this weekend with 2 shows. Yes I know it’s the Comcast Center now, but they already changed it once to the Tweeter Center and in my book if you change it again it reverts back to the original name. Besides Great Woods just sounds so much better.

We’re going to offer a special incentive to all you folks going to the concerts this weekend. Just show your ticket stub for Sugarland or the Kiss 108 show and we’ll throw in 1 bag of ice (5lb) with your purchase for you. We also have your red “concert” cups, coolers, beer pong supplies, and of course all your beer, wine, and liquor needs all covered.

This week’s Thursday night beer tasting (4:30 to 7 PM) is with our friends from Berkshire Brewing Company out in Western Mass. Marc tells me they are going to do their entire lineup of 22 oz beers so without further ado here is what they will be sampling…Gold Spike Ale…Steel Rail Extra Pale Ale…Berkshire Traditional Ale…Maibock Lager…Cabin Fever Ale…Lost Sailor IPA…River Ale…Shabadoo Black & Tan…Drayman’s Porter…and Coffeehouse Porter. These are great local beers and they don’t get down here much so be sure to stop in and get 10 % off any of the beers you try. Wallace says…lower your carbon footprint…buy local!!

I don’t have a wine tasting lined up this week as I know you are all still buzzing about last week’s amazing Rose tasting event. All kidding aside it went well and gave you all a chance to try some other Pink wines from around the world and to see how truly awful White Zin really is. I have a bunch of wine tastings scheduled for the summer months and we will be posting them on the website at http://www.corksfinewine.com/

Summer Beers Are Here...and a Tasting That's "In the Pink!"

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Tough loss for the Celtics last night. As much as I despise James and Wade, they are 2 of the best players in the NBA right now. That paired with C’s aging veterans and immature youngsters was just too much to overcome. So let’s go Bruins!! It’s going to be a long summer if we just have the floundering Redsox to watch. Good thing we have the Great Woods concert season kicking off next week with a couple of shows too.

Not too much going on new here at Cork’s as we transition into the summer beer and mixed drink season. We have a ton of new Summer Beers in stock, and we are loading up on our RTD cocktails and warm weather concoctions. And don’t forget our “Drink Pink” display in the front of the store for some delicious Summer Rose wines.

Our Beer Mgr. Marc will be doing this week’s beer tasting tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM. Here is his eclectic lineup…Southern Tier Iniquity…Allagash Black…Avery Hog Heaven Barleywine…Stone Belgo Old Guardian… Lost Abbey Lost & Found Ale…and Stone Sublimely Self Righteous. I’m not sure I’ve had any of those crazy beers and look forward to trying them myself. As with all of our Thursday night beer tastings, we will take 10 % off any of the beers you try tonight.

Since we talked about our “Drink Pink” display in the front of the store, I think it’s time for my annual Robert’s Rose tasting which will be this Friday night from 4:30 to 7 PM. I have 5 totally different Rose wines from all over the world, and we’re going to open up Sutter Home White Zinfandel just so you can compare that not all pink wines are sweet and crappy. Sorry Tommy Bolini. I know it’s the # 1 selling wine in the USA for 18 years straight but we all know its God awful. Let’s start the evening with Cristalino Rose Brut Cava from Spain. Off to Australia for Robert Oatley Rose of Sangiovese. Next we go to France for a more traditional style we have Domaine des Noulles Rose d”Anjou. Back to California for Menage a Trois Rose which is a blend of Merlot, Syrah, and Gewurztraminer. Our worldwide Rose tour ends in Chile with Cefiro Reserva Syrah Rose. For you “Red” people out there who are reading this saying, “Ewwww! Pink wines!” I will also open Mother’s Milk Shiraz from Australia. This wine I bought at 1 of the holiday trade shows I think 2 years ago because the label was cool and the wine was great. Well in 2 years we’ve sold 1 bottle so I think it’s time we revisit!

Don’t forget our in-store sales last for 2 weeks now so be sure to check out the website (corksfinewine.com) for this week’s featured items. And don’t forget we will match any competitor’s sale prices from other Mansfield stores. Just bring in the ad and we will be happy to give you that sale price. Have a great weekend everybody. Let’s go Bruins!!

Check out Marc's beer tasting this week...

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Quite a bit has happened in the last 2 weeks since our last newsletter. I hope everybody had a nice Easter and Passover. The Bruins came back against the Canadiens and are 2 up on the Flyers. The Celts swept the Knicks but are 2 down coming home against the heat. Even the Sox are righting the ship and are poised to get back to .500 tonight against their whipping boys from Anaheim. A big thanks to Guy and Phil who did a customer wine tasting last week while I was away. I heard there was a good turnout and quite the lil party going on back there. Sorry I missed it… So who’s next for a customer wine tasting???

Marc will be doing this week’s beer tasting on Thursday May 5th from 4:30 to 7 PM. He will be pouring beers from Belgium and some domestic style Belgian beers. The lineup includes St. Bernardus Abt 12…Chimay Cinq Cents (White)… Westmalle Dubbel…La’ Chouffe IPA Tripel…Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale…and Ommegang Rare VOS. Sounds like a great mix of beers and as always we will take 10% off any of the beers you try that evening. Wachusett Box of Brews Mixed 12-pk is the beer of the Month for May. They will be on sale all month for $13.99 and you get a free pint glass with every mix 12.

We are going to take this week off from wine tastings. I will find somebody for next week or do one myself next Friday night. I do have some wines that have made their return to the Cork’s shelves in the last couple of weeks. The “Bitch” is back! (no...not Erin… she was back a couple weeks ago). I’m talking Bitch Grenache from Australia. This is the wine with the cutesy pink “Bitch” label that we used to sell a ton of. The people who make it went chapter 11 but you all bitched so much asking for it, so now it’s back just in time in for Mother’s Day! (for your Mother in Law of course not Mom)

Speaking of Mothers Day we do have Mommy’s Time Out in our 2 for $16 bins as well. Lastly Bogle Phantom has re-emerged here at Cork’s. This delicious red blend comes out just once a year, in the fall, and we blew through 20 cases of it. But the supplier was able to track some down from another state and we have 3 more cases…but come in quick because they will not last!
