Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Cork's Fine Wine

Welcome to Cork’s Thanksgiving newsletter. I hope you all had a good time at our 7th Annual Grand Holiday Wine tasting this past Saturday. After a slow start it picked up halfway through and I’d say it ended up 1 of the better wine tastings we’ve had in years. Hopefully you found some new and interesting wines, and stocked up for the upcoming holidays. Let me know if you have any comments (good or bad) about the tasting. We are always trying to improve and fine tune these big tastings to make them more enjoyable for you. I think we’ll switch back to the “old” famous pizza… this batch just didn’t seem to cut it this time. But overall I think it won’t over pretty good. What do you think?

This week’s beer tasting is with Victory Brewing Co. out of Pennsylvania. I’m really not sure who’s doing the tasting to be honest. Is it Marc?...maybe Miguel again?...Donnie?... Zack?...maybe a new rep from Victory?...maybe that elusive supermodel they used to promise me. Either way, this is what they will be sampling you on: Headwaters Pale Ale…Hop Devil IPA…Hop Wallop Imperial IPA…Golden Monkey…Storm King Imperial Stout…and Helios Saison. Sounds like a pretty kick-ass lineup to me! We will take 10 % off any beers you taste tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM.

Friday night’s wine tasting (4 to 7 PM) is with Eric from Baystate Wines. Here is a glimpse of what he will be pouring for you: Red Newt Riesling…Steven Vincent Chardonnay…Red Tree Pinot Noir…Line 39 Cabernet…Viu Manent Reserve Carmenere…and Duggan’s Irish Cream. These all make nice pairings for Thanksgiving dinner, and as I’ve said in the past, the Duggan’s is better than Bailey’s for less than ½ the price.

This will probably be the last newsletter before Thanksgiving. As next Thursday is Turkey Day, and the day before is just too crazy to write 1. So let’s talk about Thanksgiving hours. We will be open 9 AM to 10 PM on the Wednesday before (23rd)…Closed Thanksgiving Day…and open 10 AM to 9 PM on “Black Friday”. Don’t forget we have the easiest in-and-out parking at these busy holiday times. And we will match any local (Mansfield) sales ad out there.

I do have Mayflower White & Red from Plymouth Winery, along with the Cranberry Wine that people have been asking me about for years. Marc is also closing out my favorite Fall seasonal beers for you. Any Pumpkin/Fall/Harvest/Oktoberfest beer still in the barn will be 10 % off. Please stop in and let us help you out with all your Holiday beer, wine, and liquor purchases. Thank you for your business, and Happy Thanksgiving!

It's here! Cork's 7th Annual Grand Holiday Wine Tasting

Welcome to Cork’s 7th Annual Grand Holiday Wine Tasting newsletter. We are less than 3 days away from our biggest wine tasting of the entire year. The lineup is all but put to bed, and if I do say so myself, it is quite impressive. We have about 87 wines and 4 liquor items for you to sample. And as with ALL our tastings here at Cork’s, it’s all FREE ! We will have plenty of munchies and our famous tasting pizza for you to snack on between wines. We have many wines sale priced and we’ll also take 10 % off any 6 bottles…15 % off any 12 bottles…and for this event only we will take 20% off 2 cases (24 bottles) or more! 2 for items will not discount further but will always count towards the total. This is a perfect opportunity to stock up for Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday season.

We have a bunch of new wines that I’ve tasted at the fall shows that have been trickling in the last few months. From $5.99 value priced wines… all the way up to $49 (Clio Mourvedre/Cabernet blend…and 1 of the best wines I’ve ever tasted at any price!)…and tons of wines in between. Most of the wines we will be sampling fall into the $8 to $13 range and will be even cheaper with the case discounts. Here is a peek at some of the wines we will be tasting. Chandon…Heidsieck…Grand Noir…Grayson…A to Z… Entwine…Villa Marchesi… Girasole…Nashoba…Barefoot…Cono Sur…Dreaming Tree…Sean Minor…Pindar…La Joya…My Big Fat Greek Wine…Dow’s…and tons more!

Normally we don’t do a beer or wine tasting the week leading up to 1 of our big events. But because Miguel was under the weather last week, we will do our “Beer of the Month” variety pack tasting tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM. This month we feature an 8-pack from Ommegang Brewery out of Cooperstown, NY. Awesome brewery by the way. I went a couple of years ago. If you’re going to the MLB Hall of Fame, or just in the upstate NY area I strongly recommend checking them out. The 8-pack consists of 2 each of these Belgian style brews. BPA (Belgian-style Pale Ale)… Abbey Ale…Saison Ale…and Three Philosophers. I’ve had them all except for the BPA which I think is new (Marc…Miguel??) and these beers are really good. As with all our “BOTM” variety packs you receive a free glass with your purchase. This time it’s not a pint glass but some crazy Belgian style vessel.

We definitely won’t have a wine tasting Friday night as we get the tables all set up for the following day. But if you want to come by and help, I’m sure we’ll have a bottle or 2 open! How about we review a few tips to help you along for the big wine tastings.

  • Bring your favorite wine glass from home. We will have real glasses not plastic for you…but they are still small and don’t let you swirl and taste the wine like yours will
  • There is no need to rinse your glass after every wine…in fact the only time you should rinse is when going from red to white…and even that is unnecessary most of the time…the water will just dilute the next wine you put in your glass

  • Remember this a tasting. 85 plus wines and a few liquor items is quite a bit. Pace yourself…dump and spit a little. I know it sounds wasteful and gross, but it’s the only way to get through a tasting of this size

  • Have some snacks and pizza to get some food in your stomach…but don’t chow down a whole pizza…If you want a whole pie, call Papa Gino’s or Domino’s to deliver you one!

  • Give the rep your # which is at the top of the sheet so we can set aside your wines and have them ready for you when you check out. Most of all…have fun…sample and learn about some fantastic wines…drink responsibly…and stock up on some great wines for the holidays!

I thank you in advance for coming, and we’ll see you all on Saturday for Cork’s 7th Annual Grand Holiday Wine tasting!

One week to Grand Fall Tasting...and vote in our poll!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. We’re just 9 days away from our 7th Annual Grand Holiday Wine Tasting. It is on Saturday November 12th from 2 to 5 PM. I’m almost done with the lineup, and we should have about 85 wines and a few liquor items for you to sample. It’s a little later than in past years, and we’ve gone back to Saturday afternoons. We were a bit slower at the last big wine tasting we did on a Thursday night, and decided we’d go to Saturdays like the big beer events. This week’s poll question is about which day you’d prefer the big tastings to be on. You can go to the blog here www.corksfinewinenewsletter.blogspot.com and vote for your favorite day.

We originally had Miguel from L. Knife scheduled for our “Beer of the Month” beer tasting tonight. Unfortunately, he is a little under the weather so we are going to re-schedule that tasting for next Thursday the 10th of November. Be sure to check the website for upcoming beer tastings with Victory…Berkshire Brewing…Newport Storm…Quality Seasonal Beers…and Sam Adams. We don’t have a wine tasting for this Friday night as we get ready for next week’s big event. I have a bunch lined up for the rest of the year including a Holiday Edition of “The Wrap” girls on December 16th. And I’m still chasing Bill “Spaceman” Lee for a tasting of his wine before the holidays are over.

It’s been kind of depressing times on the local sports scene lately. The Pats secondary looked dreadful last week against the Steelers. Let’s hope they can rebound at home against the G-Men this week. Looks like the Bruins may have finally put the Stanley Cup hangover to rest with their performance in the last few games. And does anybody really miss the NBA?? I hope you all enjoy the beautiful fall weekend and we’ll see you soon.
