Celebrate spring training with Cork's Fine Wine!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. So tell me, why are the Sox having spring training in Florida when it’s almost 60 degrees in February right here in Massachusetts? This sure has been a mild and snow free winter for sure. I’m sure we will get blasted with snow at least one more time, but if we don’t, I’ll be good with that too. I’m trying to take a year off from the Redsox after last years fiasco, but I’m finding it difficult with all the coverage from the new Jetblue (Fenway South) Park that just opened up in my 2nd hometown of Ft. Myers, Fl. We’ll have to see what develops as Spring Training rolls on and we get a taste of the real games at 100 year old Fenway North.

Speaking of tastings we have both a beer and wine tasting on the docket for this week. Our good friend Miguel from L. Knife will be here tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 to sample you on our current “Beer of the Month” This month's mix is a hand-picked variety pack that Marc pieced together himself. It features Peak Organic Hop Noir…Southern Tier Eurotrash Pils…Smuttynose Robust Porter…and Victory Headwaters Pale Ale. Not a bad mix considering Marc made them himself in the backroom! As always you get a free pint glass with our “Beer of the Month” and tonight only it can be yours for just $13.99.

Friday night’s wine tasting is kind of a “Customer Wine Tasting” as Mike from Quadrant Software will be here to help pour the wines. I will start things off at 4 PM and Mike and his gang will be here after 5 and take over till 7 PM. This tasting of course is open to all you folks as well. We will start the tasting with Sorelle Bronca Prosecco from Italy. From there we go to Germany for Kreuznacher Kronenberg Riesling Spatlese (easy for you to say). Next up is 1 of my favorite wineries in California, Alexander Valley Vineyards, as we pour their Chardonnay. We stay in Cali for 1 of the hottest red blends out there, Apothic Red. Off to Italy for Tomaiolo Chianti Classico Riserva. Mike will end the tasting with the yummie Llama Old Vine Malbec from Argentina.

Join us as we return to Thursday Beer Tastings and more...

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I hope everybody had a nice Valentine’s Day. We sure had a fun Valentine’s Day wine tasting with the “Wrap Girls” Aimee and Clara last Friday night. As always they did a great job and a big thanks to them and all their friends who joined us. I don’t have a wine tasting this Friday night but I have Mike from Quandrant Software here next Friday night so be sure to mark your calendars for that one. The next couple of months are a good time of the year if anybody else is interested in doing a “Customer Wine or Beer Tasting”. Just shoot me an e-mail, or come talk to Marc or myself and we’ll be happy to set one up.

Marc is getting us back into the Thursday night (4:30 to 7) beer tastings after a couple weeks off following the big Superbrew event. Here is a list of what he will be pouring tonight: Sam Adams Cinder Bock and Griffin’s Bow…Wachusett Imperial Black IPA…Beer Republic Hop Rod Rye…Unibroue Don de Dieu…and Southern Tier Unearthly. Once again that sure sounds like a pretty impressive lineup, most of which I’ve never had…and a few I’ve never even heard of. So I think you should help kick-start our Thursday night beer tastings tonight. Spread the word to your friends, family, and co-workers and let’s get these tastings rolling right into the spring and summer months.

Have you checked out Marc’s mix-a-six section yet? Located in the first cooler door you’ll find a selection of single Imports and American Craft beers from German Hefeweizens to inky, dark Porters and Stouts to tongue buckling American IPA’s and more. This 40 beer selection will be continuously rotating so give it a look whenever you’re in the store. You just might find your new favorite beer so grab one or mix a six!

Also featured in the beer department this month is our new Beer of The Month – a handpicked selection from Marc that you’ll only be able to find here at Cork’s. Inside this 12pk is 3 bottles each of Peak Organics Hop Noir Black IPA, Southern Tier’s Eurotrash Pilz, Smuttynose Robust Porter, and Victory Headwaters Pale Ale. $14.99 and each 12pk comes with a FREE pint glass from any of the breweries selected in this variety pack. Don’t miss out on the Beer of the Month tasting next Thursday from 4:30 – 7:00.

Valentine's Day Wine Tasting with Aimee and Clara from "The Wrap"

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. We have a special Valentine’s Day wine tasting with Aimee and Clara from “The Wrap” TV show this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. They will start with a delicious recipe I saw Giada make on her Everyday Italian cooking show (see…I actually do pay attention to the recipes on occasion, Ursula). It is a mix of pomegranate juice, orange juice and we will use Mionetto Il Prosecco. It’s topped with mint, has a deep ruby red color, and it looked almost as yummie as Giada does. Next up are 2 of our most popular white wines - Prendo Pinot Grigio and Shannon Ridge Chardonnay. For reds, they will have Duxinaro Pinot Noir and new Stray Dog Unleashed Red Wine. They will finish the Valentine tasting with Chocolate Shop “The Chocolate Lovers” wine. Unlike the creamy Chocovine blends, this is real red wine with natural dark chocolate flavor. I was a tad skeptical at first but this wine is actually really good.

Marc will take 1 more week off from beer tastings tonight. But he will have 1 next week as we get back into a routine following the big Superbrew event. This is a perfect time for anybody looking to do their own “Customer Beer Tasting”. We have a few more wine ones lined up in the next month so come on beer people where are you? Don’t forget we are clearing room for all the Spring beers arriving by taking 10% off any remaining Winter beers we have left. And you can you can also take 20% off any Fall beers we still have in the barn.

Wine Sale Items for 2-9-12 to 2-22-12

Skeleton Gruner Veltliner or Blauer Zweigelt 1 Liter … $8.99
Frisk Prickly Riesling/Moscato … $8.99
Kenwood Zinfandel … $10.99

Beer Sale Items for 2-9-12 to 2-22-12

Siera Nevada Ovila Series 750 ML … $8.95
Newport Storm 6- packs … $7.99 … Cyclone Series $8.99

Liquor Sale Items for 2-9-12 to 2-22-12

Bacardi Flavored Rum … $16.99
Martin Miller’s Gin … $26.99
Smirnoff Raspberry nips … 50ML … 99 cents

Well, we’re just about a week away from pitchers and catchers reporting to camp. I know my new team, the Pirates, start spring training on the 18th and I think the Redsox the day after. And with this mild winter we’re having can spring be that far behind? Let’s hope the Bruins can turn things around soon, that was quite an ugly loss last night. Let’s see there is something else in the local sports scene I’m forgetting….hmmmmm…Oh yea, congrats to Paul Pierce for passing Larry Legend as the #2 scorer in the storied history of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics look to be on a quiet roll of their own winning 9 of the last 10.

Don’t forget to swing by Cork’s and start the Valentine weekend with The Wrap Girls Friday night, and we’ll see you all soon.

Stock up for the SuperBowl at Cork's!!

Welcome to Cork’s Super Bowl newsletter. Thanks to everybody who turned out for our Superbrew VII Beer tasting last Saturday. I think it was the most people we’ve had at a tasting since the last time the Pats and Giants squared off in 2008. Marc did a great job having some new and interesting beers at the big event. I hope everybody found something new that they liked. If not, we have tons more beers for all your Super Bowl parties. Please feel free to comment…good or bad…so we can make the next event even better. I’m actually starting to get a bit of a complex on the big tastings. Marc’s last couple of beer tastings have kicked my ass as far as turnout goes compared to the last few wine tastings. So I’m counting on all you “wine geeks” to help me out when our 8th (Wow, 8 years!) Annual Grand Spring Wine Tasting rolls around.

Well Marc is going to take a well-deserved week off from beer tastings for this week. But I’ve pretty much had all of January off from wine tastings, so let’s get em rolling this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. Let’s start the party with Gruet Brut Sparkling Wine from of all places, New Mexico. You’ll be amazed at this true Methode Champenoise Sparkler at a third the price of Champagne. Next we go to Italy for Ferentano Bianco Lazio. All I remember was this was an outstanding (but pricey $22) Italian white when I brought it in before Christmas. But we have yet to sell a bottle so let’s taste it and let me know what you think. Next is Vina Borgia Garnacha from Spain. A great value wine (and Sangria base) for 7 bucks. Bianchi Pinot Noir from the Edna Valley will be next and is just plain yummie. I will finish the tasting with a New York VS. Boston competition. Representing NY we have Pindar Pythagoras Red Blend from the North Fork of Long Island. The closest I could find for Boston is After Dinner Peach Wine from Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton, MA. As much as I like my friends from Nashoba Valley, I’d have to say NY is a heavy favorite in that matchup.

We had a little issue with our website last week. Apparently our server for the site had a virus that it was trying to spread. We noticed it here as well as a customer who brought it to my attention. Most good anti-virus software programs will catch it and hopefully, this was not an issue for anybody. Everything is cleaned up and back up and running. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Don’t forget you can get most of the info you need to know about Cork’s at our blog http://www.corksfinewinenewsletter.blogspot.com/ or just friend us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/corksfinewine.

As far as the game itself, I think it will be fairly close with the Pats pulling it out late 27-20. So be sure to stop by for a Super Bowl Wine Tasting Friday night, and be sure to hit us up for all your “Big Game” parties this weekend.

GO PATRIOTS!!!
