Cork's is open for the Fabulous Fourth and all weekend!

Welcome to Cork’s 4th of July newsletter. It’s kind of a cool thing celebrating the 4th this year as I was just in Philadelphia yesterday, and saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Of course it would have been better if the Sox hadn’t lost 2 straight to the Phillies…not to mention losing 2 of 3 to the lowly Pirates. Both are gorgeous ballparks and I highly recommend a visit next time the Sox are in town. We’ll get right back into the swing of Corks things with a Troegs beer tasting tonight, and a special Customer Wine Tasting on Friday night. We also have some great specials going on for the long 4th of July holiday. We will be open from 9 to 6 on Monday the 4th for all your last minute needs.

Kind of a coincidence tonight’s beer tasting is with Troegs Brewery out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I just paid them a visit and had a great tour and tasting with those fine folks. The beers are outstanding and they are ramping up for a move to Hershey that will allow them to triple production. The Anthology Sampler Case has been our “Beer of the Month” for June and tonight we will sample this sublime collection of their finest brews. Our pal Miguel from L. Knife will be pouring Hopback Amber Ale…Dreamweaver Wheat Ale…Pale Ale…and Sunshine Pils. You get a free Troegs pint glass with a 12 PK purchase as well. July’s “Beer of the Month” is going to be the variety pack from Wachusett, and we will be sampling them on a Thursday night sometime next month.

We have a special “Customer Wine Tasting” with Aimee and Clara from The Wrap TV show on Norton Public Access channel 15. It is a special time of 4 to 6 PM, so get here early! They have selected some of their favorite wines to share with family, friends, and all our Cork’s customers. These are the wines they picked out. Lamarca Prosecco…Zaccagnini Pinot Grigio…Toad Hollow Chardonnay…Apothic Red…Silver Range Malbec…and Luccio Moscato D’Asti. This is a real nice summer wine lineup, and these wines will be great for 4th of July cookouts, barbecues, and picnics. I think they were going to bring a dish or 2 to pair with these wines, and of course we will have our usual cheese and crackers. So come say hi to 2 of our local celebrities, try some great wines, and be sure to watch them on channel 15 in Norton or anytime at this link on the web. http://nortontv.org/public.html

Summer's Gonna Sizzle at Cork's with Unique Tastings!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Well, we’ve had a week to bask in the glow of the Bruins Stanley Cup victory. I hope some of you got to go the rolling rally, or the Sox game on Sunday like I did. It was cool to see the duckboats and the Cup in person. Now we just need the Redsox to keep up this torrid pace and bring another World Series trophy back to Boston. We had a very busy weekend here at Cork’s with Jimmy Buffett in town and tons of tastings last week.

To kick off the 1st official Summer Weekend, Marc will be having a “Can Tasting” Thursday night from 4:30 to 7 PM. The days of canned beer coming in crappy tin cans, giving off a weird aftertaste are gone. There are tons of craft beers now in cans, with more and more coming out all the time. Here is what he will be pouring this week. Sixpoint Righteous Ale…Oscar Blues Gordon…21st Amendment Hell or Highwatermellon…Red Racer Pale Ale…Narragansett Summer Ale…and Leinenkugel Summer Shandy. These beers are great for the pool, boats, or patios where bottles just don’t work. So stop by and kick-off the summer season, and be sure to get your 10% discount on any beers you taste that night.

We don’t have a wine tasting scheduled for this Friday night but we have a special “Customer Wine Tasting” next Friday July 1st from 4 to 6 PM. We have Aimee & Clara from “The Wrap” TV show in Norton here to pour some of their favorite wines. They just recently celebrated their 25th show on channel 15 on Norton Public TV. They talk about all things happening locally in Norton and Mansfield. If you live in Mansfield and can’t get the broadcast you can watch it online. Here is the link to check it out. http://nortontv.org/public.html These girls seem like lots of fun, and they’ve picked out some great wines to share with you. We’ll have the complete lineup of what they will be sampling in next weeks newsletter.

Don’t forget our weekly sale items on the website www.corksfinewine.com. And save the date for our 5th Annual Customer Appreciation Day which is Saturday July 30th from 1 to 4 PM. We will have burgers…hotdogs…snacks…wine, liquor, and beer tastings…tons of free stuff...and of course our famous raffle. We’re rounding up some goodies for the raffle now, and if you haven’t been to 1 of these you must come this year. Just another reminder if you are going to any show at Great Woods, stop in for a free bag of ice or any (1) of the 5 brand new Summer Seltzers from Polar…they come in Orange Mango…Tropical Fruit…Pina Colada…Banana…and Pineapple Passion Fruit. These are great summer mixers and are both sodium and calorie free! Have a great weekend everybody.

Bruins...and Buffet... and Baseball, oh my! Come celebrate them all with us!!

Wooohooo…Stanley Cup Champions baby!! Can you believe it? After 39 years we have Lord Stanley’s Cup back in Boston. I for one was nervous about game 7 in Vancouver, but it shows the character and the toughness of a game 7 was in the Bruins DNA and not in the cowardness and softness of the Sedin sisters and Looouuuuongo. What a game and series by Tim Thomas, and my lasting impression will be that of the “Rat” Marchand using one of the sisters as his personal punching bag, when he wasn’t flicking in wrist shots or wrap around goals. Congratulations Bruins enjoy the Duck Boat Parade. I wish I could be there but we have the Buffet concert on Saturday at Great Woods to prepare for.

We have a ton of stuff going on in the next week at Cork’s as we prepare for the invasion of the Parrotheads. We won’t have a beer tasting on Thursday night as we switch it to Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 PM for our annual Jimmy Buffet tasting. Vinny, or 1 of his “Vinnions” …yea, Marc, I stole that from you…will be here to sample you on Landshark Lager and the new Margaritaville Spiked Lemonade or Spiked Tea. We will also have Eric from Baystate Wines here from 11 AM to 1 PM sampling you on the new V n C Ready To Drink Premium Cocktails. They come in 3 flavors…Vodka Banana Daiquiri…Vodka Strawberry Daiquiri…and Pacific Breeze. He will also have the new Beach House White Blend for you to taste as well.

I will be having a Stanley Cup, Bruins themed wine tasting on Friday night from 4:30 to 7 PM. Let’s get the party started and pop 2 of my go-to “Sparklers” Mionetto Brut Prosecco, and Piper Heidsieck Blue Top Brut Champagne. The next 2 wines are white wines that I picked strictly because they have Black and Gold labels! Those would be Wolf Blass Chardonnay, and Cline Pinot Gris. For reds we have 1 of our weekly special wines, Clos du Val Pinot Noir and 1 of my favorite Merlots from Dry Creek Vineyards. So bust out your Bruins gear and come celebrate the return of Lord Stanley’s Cup with us. And if you see a locker room championship hat (but it has to be large/XL for me)…hey I have a big head…buy it for me… and I will reimburse you when you come in. I’ve been everywhere and can’t find it.

Customer Apprecation Day to add to your calendar!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Now that was some old time Bruins hockey Monday night! Let’s hope they keep the momentum going and even up the series tonight. And it looks like the Sox still have the Yankees # as they win again in NY. Now if only the Celtics were going after banner # 18 instead of the despicable Heat. Not that I’ve watched 1 second of it, I’m certainly pulling for Dirk and the Mavs to pull it out.

OK….sports references out of the way let’s see what’s happening here at Cork’s. Things are really picking up of late with the Great Woods season getting into swing. We were quite busy for the Phish concert last night. And we go from the Phisheads to the Parrotheads as Jimmy Buffet makes his annual pilgrimage next Saturday. Don’t forget to show your concert ticket and get a free bag of ice with any purchase!

Speaking of annual events, circle you calendars for Cork’s 4th Annual Customer Appreciation Day. It will be Saturday July 30th from 1 to 4 PM. This is our biggest event of the year and features wine, beer, and liquor tastings. In addition we spark up the grill and have burgers and hot dogs for everyone. This is our chance to thank you for your patronage and being loyal Cork’s customers. We’ll even welcome back those of you have strayed to the new “Evil Empire” in town and those who frequent our “Local” competitors. We may not have the buying power of them, and the big fancy ads, but this is what we like to do to show our appreciation to our customers. We also have a HUGE RAFFLE and give away tons of free stuff to everybody. There are no concerts at either local venue so this is the perfect day to come by and enjoy a great day here at Cork’s.

Marc will be doing his monthly “Beer Manager” tasting this Thursday night from 4:30 to 7 PM. Here is the list of crazy beers he gave me that he will be sampling. Anderson Valley Hop Ottin IPA…AV Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout… Port Brewing 5th Anniversary… Long Trail Brewmasters Series Double IPA…Pretty Things Field Mouse’s Farewell…Heavy Seas Holy Sheet Uber Abbey Ale. Sounds like some pretty cool stuff to me! So come check them out and get 10% off any of these eclectic craft beers.

We won’t be having a wine tasting this week as I defer to our neighbor's fabulous Pinot Grigio extravaganza. But if you’re in the neighborhood and hankering for a nice red, I’m sure I’ll have a bottle or 2 open. I do have a bunch of wine tastings lined up throughout the summer months so be sure to check out the website at http://www.corksfinewine.com/. You can also find our weekly specials on beer, wine, and liquor items throughout the store there.

Stay cool…stock up for the big games…and have a great weekend everybody.

Let's go Bruins! Stock up and watch the Stanley Cup with Cork's Fine Wine

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. The weather was pretty good for the most part as I think we’re finally out of our everyday rain cycle. And I’m sure it’s spectacular in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest where the Bruins start their quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup tonight. I’m not sure how many of you have been to Vancouver but it is the most beautiful area of the world that I’ve ever been to. Let’s hope the Bruins can sneak out a win or two on the road before the series shifts back to Boston.

This weeks Thursday night beer tasting (4:30 to 7) features the summer beers from Quality Beverage. My cousin Vinnie/Dan/Greg/supermodel (yea right they haven’t sent 1 of those in years!) will be sampling you on 6 beers to get you ready for the warm summer months. They will have Sierra Nevada Summefest…Magic Hat Wacko…Goose Island Summertime…Buffalo Bills Orange Blossom Cream Ale…Kona Wailua Wheat…and Widmer Bros. Citra Blonde Summer Brew. Sounds like a pretty good lineup to me. I know I haven’t had at least 3 of them, and look forward to trying them with you. As with all our Thursday night beer tastings we will take 10% off any of the beers you taste that evening.

We have the return of the Tommy Bolini show for Friday nights wine tasting from 4:30 to 7 PM. He has a great lineup of wines to taste you on including this year’s Redsox wines (as I write this the Sox are getting swept by the Whitesox). He will start you with Chandon Brut Rose Sparkling Wine. Next up is a delicious value priced Sauvignon Blanc from Bogle. Clay Buchholz ChardonClay and Jon Lester Cabernace are the newest additions from Longball Vineyards. Off to Washington State for Hedges CMS Red Blend. He will finish off with the outstanding Luigi Bosca Reserve Malbec from Argentina.

Wine Sale Items week ending 6-15-11
· Renwood Sierra Series Zinfandel … $7.99
· BV Coastal Sauvignon Blanc … $7.99

Yikes as I’m writing this its pitch black out and they are saying there are tornados out in Western Mass. Let’s hope they aren’t too bad and they blow over. Just in case I’m going to go hide in the beer cooler and crack open a beer!
