Curling....Bud Select 55...and customer wine tastings, oh my!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I hope everybody had a great weekend and you’re surviving the monsoon we’re in the middle of. Thank God it’s not snow or we would be buried by Sunday. Is everybody enjoying the winter Olympics as much as I am? I’m riveted to the USA network watching every curling match I can find. Let’s hope the USA hockey team continues its run, and Ursula puts the cooking channel on so I can watch Giada!

We have a very exciting beer tasting lined up for tonight. My cousin Vinnie will be here to sample you on the brand new Bud Select 55. This beer has been on fire since it was introduced a few weeks ago. It has only 55 calories per 12 oz. bottle and is the lightest, low calorie beer on the market today. He will also sample you on the flagship Bud Select brand to refresh your memory. I will also try to twist his arm into opening something a little heartier for you folks that want a more full-bodied beer.

We don’t have an official wine tasting on Friday night. But as most of you know we will have a couple bottles of something good cracked open, and we’re always open to opening up something else you might want to try. We do have Joanne and Jocelyn lined up for a “Customer Wine Tasting” next week on the 5th of March. And we have John from Trio Wines and his sister Regina the Tarot card reader lined up for the following Friday the 12th. And don’t forget we have our ginourmous 6th Annual Grand Spring Wine Tasting on Thursday March 25th from 4:30 to 7 PM. We also have to talk Megan and Kat into a Napa/Sonoma tasting to talk about their excellent California adventure they just returned from.

Back to tastings both beer and wine!

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I hope everybody had a nice Valentine’s Day weekend and you’re enjoying the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It was quite a day for the USA team with 3 gold medals last night. And guess what today is…Redsox pitchers and catchers report to spring training! It’s almost 50 degrees today as well, so spring can’t be to far away.

We haven’t had a beer tasting in a couple of weeks since the big Super Brew V event, so let’s get Mr. Wallace to crack open some brews tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7 PM. He will have a Spring beer…(Anchor Bock Beer), a Winter beer…(Winter Bourbon Cask Ale), and we even have a beer from Surrey, British Columbia ...hey, it’s not Vancouver but this canned beer is freakin good! (Red Racer IPA). The last 1 has nothing to do with Spring, Winter, or the Olympics but just sounds really cool. It’s Dogfish Head Red & White. It’s brewed with coriander, orange peel and Pinot Noir juice and is even aged in Pinot Noir barrels. As with all our Thursday night beer tastings, we will take 10% off any beers we taste that evening.

We haven’t done an official wine tasting in a bit either (though we ended up opening 5 bottles last Friday), so let’s do 1 this Friday night from 4:30 to 7 PM. Since we’re in the middle of winter and I’m sure you’re all still paying off them Christmas bills, let’s do a value tasting. Windy Ridge Chardonnay will get us started, this delicious Central Coast Chard drinks like a $15 wine and is just 2 for $14. Cono Sur Viognier is next at 2 for $16. All of the Cono Sur wines are amazing and a great value. Next is a Portuguese red blend called Cerejeiras at 2 for $14. Valcantara Old Vine Garnacha is next and even at 2 for $20 is a great wine. We have to have 1 bomb in the mix, so let’s end with a French Burgundy. Laboire-Roi La Belle Masure Cote de Nuits-Villages…sounds like a lot of words for a Pinot Noir but it’s an ‘07 and I bet it’s drinking real good right now.

Have a great weekend and we’ll see you soon.

Winter Olympics...and customer tastings?

Welcome to Cork's weekly newsletter. I hope everybody had a good week and enjoyed the Super Bowl game last Sunday. Not a bad game...though I thought the commercials this year were mediocre at best. We survived another huge snow storm and we're less than a week away from the Red Sox pitchers and catchers to report to spring training! The Celts look beat limping into the all-star break...let's hope the B's can keep the momentum going after that dismal stretch as they head into the Winter Olympic break. Which brings me to the Winter games in Vancouver, BC. I don't know about you but I look forward to the Olympics every 2 years and find myself rooting for skiers, skaters, snowboarders and even the crazy sweeping nonsense of the curling competition. And having been to Vancouver and Whistler, I'm really looking forward to the views from this breathtaking area.

As far as events at Cork's this week, we're going to stay low-key for another week on the tasting front. I have some beer tastings coming up in the next few weeks including the brand new Bud Select 55 and Goose Island, a cool micro-brew from the Midwest. As far as wine tastings, I'll leave the floor open to Bum Runners sit & spit on Friday night. But as always, we'll have a couple of bottles open here...perhaps with a Valentine theme. We do have some wine tastings booked, including the lovely Erin from J. Polep with some great new wines, and a Customer Wine tasting lined up. We still have room for a couple more and I know there are a few of you out there asking about them. So now's the time to let me know.

It should be an interesting week as Megan and the girls head to Napa Valley and Sonoma. I'm sure they will have lots of stories to share about the beautiful wineries and vineyards they will be visiting. Have a great weekend and we'll see you soon.

6th Annual Spring Tasting scheduled...and Super Bowl Parties

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. I would like to thank all of you who attended the Super Brew V beer tasting. I’m always shocked at the amount of you folks that come out for these big events. I hope you found some new beers to your liking and had a good time. I was quite impressed with the new beers that Bill Russell is making at Just Beer down in Westport. We will be bringing in more of them and featuring them going forward here at Cork’s. Feel free to leave me any comments, criticisms, or ideas that you may have so that we can make these big events even better.

While we are on the topic of big events we have a date picked out for our 6th Annual Grand Spring Wine tasting…(holy crap batman have we really been here 6 years already?!?) The date is Thursday night, March 25th from 4:30 to 7 PM. Easter is a little early this year (April 4th) so we want to give you a chance to try some new wines before the holiday. I don’t have any beer or wine tastings scheduled for this week. But I’m here Friday night and I’m sure we’ll have a bottle or 2 opened up.

We will be featuring Smuttynose 12 packs as our “Beer of the Month”. We will price them at $14.99 for any 12 pack, and we’ll even through in a free pint glass! So be sure to stop in and load up for all your Super Bowl parties.
