3rd Customer Wine Tasting

Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter. Finally a nice stretch of summer weather to enjoy. Now if only the Sox can go into NY and keep that unbeaten streak against the Yankees going. We’re going to take another week off from beer tastings this week as we get rid of the last the summer beers and get ready for Autumn/Oktoberfest beers. I think the Sam Octoberfest will be in next week, with tons of others to follow. This is my favorite beer time of year, and as we have in the past will bring in every fall beer out there and build a huge display in the front of the store.

We have our 3rd Customer Wine Tasting this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. Our friends John and Sarah will be here pouring some of their favorite wines for you to try. They have an interesting lineup of wines from Long Island (where they are from), and their favorite wineries that they have visited. They will start with Palmer Pinot Blanc and Corey Creek Chardonnay. These are both world class wines from a great growing area, the North Fork of Long Island, NY. These wines and wineries usually get lumped in with the Finger Lakes region of NY, but are really quite delicious. There are over 30 on LI wineries that parallel the great wine growing regions in Bordeaux, France. I lived out there for 2 years and made several trips out to the wineries. Coincidently I’m making another trek this Monday with our friends from Sun Wholesale. These make great weekend getaways, and they are less than 3 ½ hours away by car or ferry. Merryvale Sauvignon Blanc will finish off the white portion of the tasting. They both love Cabernet Franc, so we will re-visit the local Cab Franc from Greenvale Vineyards next. Sebastiani Zinfandel and St. Supery Cabernet are 2 wineries that they have visited, and make perfect wines for those ribs and steaks that you throw on the Grill. I know it’s the dog days of the summer, but let’s try and support John and Sarah at this excellent tasting. Who’s up for the next one?

I’m leaning towards the 20th of August for our Thursday beer tasting/roadtrip to Buzzards Bay in Westport. It would be from 5 to 8 PM, and they have grills set up to BBQ as well as a brewery tour. Don’t forget the Newport Storm Luau which is on Saturday, August 15th. I just got off the phone with them and they are leaning against roasting a pig this year, but they will still have plenty of catered BBQ…their delicious beers…and lots of cool music all to benefit the Ft. Adams Fund. We’ll throw some more info and links on the website (corksfinewine.com) for both of these beer events. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you soon.

Robert
